The BarKaysThe BarKays are finally getting their day:  Starting as a local band; the BarKays grew to become one of the nation’s best known musical groups.  They’ve maintained a Memphis flavor as they’ve attracted international attention for over 4 decades and are, still, in musical demand.  There haven’t been many local opportunities for the BarKays to receive recognition until now.  The group was born in Memphis, the R&B Mecca of the nation, but again, local awards and recognition seem to be out of reach for the BarKays.  Even as most of the founding members were killed in a plane crash years ago; the present group members are the longest surviving Memphis based R&B recording group in Memphis’s musical history.   In fact, the BarKays are solely responsible for the present evolution of what was once called the “Memphis sound”.

A Memphis based music and entertainment guru, Mr. Muhammad Ziyad realized this deficient and started laboring months ago to present awards and to give recognition to a group of Memphis’s best.  Mr. Ziyad created The Hot Buttered Soul Awards for the sole purpose of recognizing those who’ve made contributions to their local towns and cities but haven’t gotten their day.
