Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. first went to Memphis in the spring of 1968. Black sanitation workers had been on strike since February, protesting low wages and miserable working conditions. James Lawson, a long-time civil rights activist and a Rev. James Smith, asked his friend King to come help. The strange thing is: the black bougie hated Dr. King, they stood united against him, made public statement in the press about his needing to stay away from Memphis, and was never seen in any of his public gatherings. This public hatred of Dr. King by many so-called middle-class “blacks” perhaps was the beginning of his demise, right here in Memphis, Tennessee.

Prof. Otis Sanford
“Black” Memphians have lived for decades under the oppression of local media and their “fake news”. Rarely, a story in the media, during the days of Dr. King’s visit, depicted a “black” citizen in any positive way. The media would not publish the truth, write any lengthy story about “black” people, and would never publish a story that put “white” citizens in a negative light against “black” citizens. The press and other media did everything in their power to defame Dr. King, mis-direct the people about his intentions, and characterized him as communist, hater, and womanizer. Dr. King didn’t give up, he continued to speak up for the sanitation workers, the poor, and those who needed his inspiration. Dr. King later that year was shot and killed while among poor people.
Memphis has a long history of hate, bitterness, and murder. The city, in that frame, was an idea city to assassinate Dr. King. While in Memphis and because of the media, Dr. King only drew small numbers of people who came to join him and his cause. The vast majority of the people stayed home. The night of his last speech was an example of how little the people of Memphis supported him. Mason Temple, the church were he delivered has Mountain Top speech, nearly didn’t reach the building’s capacity. In comparison, the population of “black” Memphians, during Dr. King’s campaign in Memphis, wasn’t really behind him.
Memphis is one of the most crime ridden cities in America. The city’s murder rate is within the top 3 cities, blood flows down her streets like the mighty Mississippi, and lawlessness is apparent.
Today, another great American lives in Memphis, Judge Joe Brown is the most recognized person in America. He was named, Life Magazine, the 13th most likeable Americans. He maintained his job as a T.V. Judge longer than any syndicated program in America. Judge Joe Brown was elected twice as a Judge in Memphis, He oversaw the city’s Public Defender Office. He did more Pro Bono cases than any other lawyer in the city. His approach to untraditional justice won him national attention. Wherever he goes, he’s instantly recognized, never turns away anybody who approaches him for a selfie, a brief conversation, and he relates with everyone with the utmost attention.

Judge Joe Brown
Judge Joe Brown is campaigning for Mayor of Memphis, 2023. His platform includes police reform, green energy, production and restoration of the city’s infrastructure, generation of trade, commerce, and manufacturing, safe streets, youth character building, protecting children, public peace, dignity, order, and common sense. He’s the highest and best qualified, but the fake news media wants to destroy his character by any means necessary. Their agenda would most likely keep the city in violence and hate, but Judge Joe Brown wants to return the city to her natural state of civility. The city cannot allow this small group of people to continue our city spiraling down into nothingness. To build a great city our leadership has to first be great and not leaders who throw hate stones to destroy one’s character instead of addressing concerns and issues as adults should.
Perhaps our youths have learned hate by observing our hate filled and “fake news” media. Memphis media must take full responsibility for their poor journalism and they must be held accountable. Crime and violence are not the greatest problem simply because it’s time. Memphis’s crime problem is, because adults and leaders are insensitive and behave like thugs.
Judge Joe Brown has found himself in the same situation as Dr. King when dealing with the Memphis media. Their vicious attacks are as deadly as they were towards Dr. King. They act as if they’ve lost all sense of journalism. Many are repeating lies, falsehoods, unsubstantiated information, and twist stories away from the truth to fit their ugly agenda. One local media, channel 24, through its commentator, Prof. Otis Sanford has publicly gone all out to defame Judge Joe Brown. He has, in his commentary, stated publicly that Judge Joe Brown is insane, a women hater, and is discredited. Judge Joe Brown has never spoken ill about a single woman. However, he has spoken in general about women and how men must return as their supporters as well as protectors of themselves and their children.
Just as Dr. King, the bougies of Memphis worked to undermine him and now they’re doing the same against Judge Joe Brown. Nevertheless, they’re no more notorious than they were during the days of Dr. King. Anyone who comes from among ourselves to bring much needed change and to help us to understand each other is a target of those who serve a master and manipulator of poor people. Prof. Otis Sanford, cannot be recognized as a peace giver, he’s using his authority and high position to hurt someone, because of a statement that’s twisted into an ungodly meaning. Whatever happened to freedom of speech and a chance to correct one’s meaning. How could Prof. Otis Sanford, et al defame a man without ever speaking to the man or giving the man an opportunity to present his side of the story. It’s time out for Prof. Otis Sanford’s style of so-called journalism.
The question is: Does Memphis media have the same agenda towards Judge Joe Brown as did towards Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. (R.I.P.)?
